Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and prepare for skid steer loader operations
- Access, interpret and apply skid steer loader operations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
- Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- Obtain, identify and implement traffic signage requirements
- Select plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks that are consistent with the requirements of the job, check them for serviceability and rectify or report any faults
- Select, and check for faults, equipment and/or attachments for work activities
- Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
- Operate skid steer loader
- Load, carry and place materials
- Select, remove and fit attachments
- Relocate the skid steer loader
- Carry out machine operator maintenance
- Conduct housekeeping activities
Performance Evidence
Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:
locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and proceduresimplements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of skid steer loader operations with attachments including:identifying the components and specific actions of a skid steeridentifying skid steer loader tasks conducting prestart checks prior to commencing operations and shutdown procedures on completion of operationscarrying out vehicle refuelling requirements and proceduresapplying safe work practices and identifying and reporting all potential hazards, risks and environmental issuesselecting and using the required tools, equipment and attachmentsworking safely around other machines and personneldemonstrates completion of conducting skid steer loader operations using attachments that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:driving, manoeuvring and operating skid steer loader smoothly, adjusting operations for the work environment conditionsperforming skid steer loading tasks which must include a minimum of one (1) of the following on each occasion:stripping/spreading topsoil and materialsbackfillingloading vehiclesexcavationsmixing materialssite clean upcompactingtruck excavationlifting and carrying materialscutting batters and benchesrock breaking and any activities associated with attachments listed belowusing communication systems to confirm activity, correct path and process to safely move and transport loadpositioning skid steer loader ensuring stability in operationsloading materials shifting and placing materials selecting, fitting, testing, using and removing a minimum of one (1) of the following attachments on each occasion:multipurpose bucketforksdozer bladebackhoeaugerchain diggerpower broomprofilertiller/mixerrotary hoehammerasphalt cutter/sawconcrete cutter/sawrakeloading and unloading skid steer loader from float/trailerpark up, shut down and prepare machine for maintenance
